PADUCAH, KY – A quick-moving Alberta Clipper system will bring light snow to parts of western Kentucky, southern Illinois, and southern Indiana overnight, according to the National Weather Service in Paducah.

Snow is expected to begin this evening and continue through early Friday morning, with 1–2 inches possible in far northeastern portions of the region, including Pike County, IN, where a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 6 AM Friday. Areas farther south, including Paducah and Cape Girardeau, may see only a light dusting.

Forecasters note a sharp gradient in snowfall totals, meaning small shifts in the storm track could significantly affect which areas see measurable snow.

Behind the system, a surge of arctic air will bring dangerously cold temperatures this weekend. Wind chills are forecast to drop to -10°F to -15°F by Saturday night into Sunday morning, with actual lows in the single digits across much of the area.

Residents are urged to bundle up, check heating systems, and protect pets, livestock, and pipes from the extreme cold.
