Pendleton, Oregon – Mountain travel across northeast Oregon and southeast Washington will remain hazardous through midweek as multiple rounds of snow stack up across the Cascades and Blue Mountains.
According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 3 p.m. Wednesday for the Northern Blue Mountains of Oregon and the Northwest Blue Mountains of Washington. Additional snow totals up to 8 inches are expected, with 5 to 8 inches likely above 4,500 feet and 2 to 6 inches down to 3,000 feet. Areas near Meacham, Tollgate and Ski Bluewood Resort could see periods of moderate to heavy snowfall.
Farther south, the East Slopes of the Oregon Cascades remain under advisory until 10 p.m. Tuesday. Locations including Sisters, Camp Sherman, Sunriver and La Pine may pick up 5 to 10 inches along the Cascade crest, with lighter totals away from higher elevations.
Snow-covered pavement and reduced visibility will create slick conditions on mountain highways, including stretches near Santiam and Willamette passes. Drivers should slow down and check TripCheck.com or state 511 systems before departure.
Hazardous travel conditions will persist through Tuesday night in the Cascades and through Wednesday afternoon in the Blue Mountains as additional snow bands move through.
