Oregon – The still, damp air across the Willamette Valley is about to give way to a steady rhythm of December rain. By Thursday, umbrellas and raincoats will be essential again in Eugene, where multiple rounds of rainfall are expected to carry through the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Portland, a series of Pacific systems will bring consistent moisture beginning late Wednesday night, with rain likely after 10 a.m. Thursday. Precipitation may total up to an inch in parts of Lane County through Saturday. Roads and fields will remain saturated, increasing the risk of ponding water and slick travel on local highways and surface streets.

The heaviest rainfall is expected Friday into Saturday, when the chance of precipitation rises to 100%, accompanied by highs near 54°F to 56°F. Light southerly winds will keep conditions cool but not frigid, though patchy fog may develop between rain bands—particularly during early-morning commutes.

For residents returning from Thanksgiving travel, plan for slow travel times and wet pavement through the first weekend of December. Showers may briefly ease by Sunday afternoon, with a mix of clouds and drizzle continuing into early next week.

Five-Day Outlook (Eugene, OR):

  • Today: Areas of fog, then partly sunny, high 48°F.
  • Thursday: Rain likely after 10 a.m., high 49°F.
  • Friday: Rain, high 54°F.
  • Saturday: Rain continues, high 56°F.
  • Sunday: Cloudy, high 56°F.
