PORTLAND, Ore. – Rain chances return to the Portland metro beginning late Tuesday, but the bigger story arrives by the weekend as temperatures surge into the 90s with sunny, dry skies. The National Weather Service warns of a transitional weather pattern this week, with scattered showers midweek followed by a sharp warm-up into potentially dangerous heat.

According to the NWS in Portland, a slight chance of showers begins Tuesday night with increasing rain potential through Wednesday night. The system moves out by Thursday morning, paving the way for sunny skies and rising temperatures that could hit 93°F by Sunday. The city hasn’t seen back-to-back 90s since early July.

Monday: Partly sunny, highs in the mid-70s. Light northwest breeze.
Tuesday: Warmer, highs near 81°F. Evening shower chance after 11 p.m.
Wednesday: Highest rain chance (up to 50%). Daytime highs in the upper 70s.
Thursday: Lingering morning drizzle, then clearing to near 80°F.
Friday–Sunday: Dry and hot. Highs climb from 83°F Friday to 93°F Sunday.

Residents should monitor cooling options later this week, especially the elderly and vulnerable. More heat alerts could be issued by Thursday if the current warming trend holds.
