Seattle, Wash. – A sharp temperature drop is moving into the Pacific Northwest this weekend, with highs expected to fall 5 to 15 degrees below seasonal averages before spreading east into the Plains by Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service Weather Prediction Center, a disturbance aloft is driving the cooldown, with cooler Canadian air spilling into Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Montana. By Sunday, many locations west of the Cascades will see highs only in the 60s, while inland areas such as Spokane and Boise may hover in the low 70s.

The chill deepens Monday into Tuesday as the system tracks into Wyoming, the Dakotas, and Nebraska. Forecast models show Denver may remain in the upper 60s by early week, while Rapid City could dip into the mid-60s—nearly 15 degrees below average.

Travelers should plan for changing conditions on I-90 across Washington and I-84 through Oregon and Idaho, where cooler air may bring overnight lows into the 40s. Officials advise layering up for outdoor events and monitoring local forecasts as the system advances eastward.

Temperatures are expected to remain below normal through midweek, with additional advisories possible if the cool pattern lingers.
