EUGENE, Ore. – A thick fog blanket grips the Willamette Valley this morning, turning headlights into halos and slowing early commuters. The National Weather Service in Portland has issued a Dense Fog Advisory in effect until 10 AM PST, warning of visibility near one-quarter mile or less from Eugene to Portland and Vancouver, WA.

Drivers along I-5 and Highway 99W should plan for sudden drops in visibility and slick spots caused by patchy frost on rural roadways. The fog is expected to lift gradually midmorning, revealing calm and mostly sunny skies across western Oregon.

Today brings light winds and highs near 50°F, marking one of the last quiet days before the weather pattern shifts. Clouds return late Saturday, with rain likely by Sunday afternoon. A series of Pacific systems will move through early next week, bringing steady showers and cooler temperatures — a classic setup for late November travel slowdowns.

Heading into Thanksgiving week, models hint at a broad cold push spreading across much of the U.S., including the Pacific Northwest. While no major snow is expected in the valleys, Cascade passes could see accumulating snow, raising travel concerns for those heading east. Nationally, meteorologists warn that a winter-like storm track may deliver 3 to 10 inches of snow across parts of the Rockies, Midwest, and Northeast between Nov. 25 and Dec. 3.

For now, Eugene residents should enjoy a calm but chilly Friday, keeping fog lights on and travel speeds low until the morning haze clears.
