Windshield wipers are working overtime across western Oregon this morning as sheets of steady rain continue to fall. The air feels thick and damp, and water already pools along curbs and low-lying stretches of I-5. Forecasters say this is just the beginning — more rain is on the way.

According to the National Weather Service in Portland, a Flood Watch remains in effect through late Thursday night for most of western Oregon, including the Willamette Valley, the Coast Range, and portions of southwest Washington. Between 2.5 and 5 inches of rain are expected across the Eugene area, with up to 6–12 inches possible in higher Cascade and Coast Range elevations.

Meteorologists warn of urban and river flooding, especially in areas that have already seen heavy rainfall. Saturated soils may lead to landslides on steep terrain and debris flows near burn scars. Drivers should expect ponding on highways and possible hydroplaning during heavier downpours. Plan extra time if traveling on I-5, Highway 126, or 99W through midweek.

By Thursday evening, the system will slowly weaken, allowing rain to taper by Friday morning. Drier air returns by the weekend with mostly sunny skies expected Friday into Saturday, offering a brief break before another round of Pacific moisture moves in next week.
