Pendleton, OR – Winter has arrived early across the Pacific Northwest, as a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for the Oregon and Washington Cascades through 1 p.m. Monday, according to the National Weather Service in Pendleton.

The advisory, which began 4 p.m. Sunday, targets elevations above 4,000 feet, where snowfall totals of 2 to 6 inches are expected. Forecasters say conditions could become hazardous along higher-elevation roadways, particularly mountain passes.

According to the NWS forecast, White Pass and Santiam Pass are likely to receive the heaviest snow, with 7 to 9 inches possible at pass level. Drivers should anticipate slick roads, reduced visibility, and potential chain requirements during the advisory period.

This early-season system is expected to bring the first significant snow of the fall to the Cascades, impacting both recreation areas and major travel corridors between Portland, Yakima, Bend, and Spokane. Motorists are advised to check local road reports before traveling through mountain routes.
