Seattle, WA – A 3.4 magnitude earthquake struck just south of Seattle early Saturday morning, briefly shaking the region.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the quake hit at 3:45 a.m. local time, centered about 5 kilometers south-southeast of Lea Hill, Washington. It originated at a depth of 25.3 kilometers.
Residents across Seattle’s southern suburbs, including Kent and Renton, reported feeling light to moderate shaking. The Pacific Northwest Seismic Network (PNSN) classified the intensity as Level IV on the Modified Mercalli Scale, indicating noticeable shaking but no significant damage.
Emergency officials said there were no immediate reports of injuries or structural damage. Authorities urged residents to review earthquake safety procedures.
The Pacific Northwest sits along the Cascadia Subduction Zone, making seismic activity common. Scientists continue monitoring the region for aftershocks.
Residents who felt the quake can report their experiences on the USGS “Did You Feel It?” platform to help improve earthquake tracking.
