Portland, OR – The Pacific Northwest is under a critical fire weather alert today as severe weather conditions increase the risk of wildfires. The National Weather Service (NWS) issued the alert due to a combination of strong winds, dry conditions, and the approach of a weather system from the Pacific.
According to the NWS, winds in the region are expected to strengthen, particularly during the afternoon, with speeds reaching up to 25 mph. Relative humidity levels will drop into the teens, exacerbating the fire danger.
The system may also bring isolated thunderstorms, which are expected to be dry, further increasing the risk of fire. The most at-risk areas include Southern Oregon, Northern California, and parts of Northwest Nevada.
Residents are urged to remain vigilant and to follow any fire restrictions in place. The critical fire weather conditions are expected to last throughout the day, with authorities monitoring the situation closely.
