Ozaukee County, Wisconsin – One person was killed following a head-on crash between a pickup truck and a school bus in the Town of Cedarburg.
According to the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at approximately 1:18 p.m. Thursday to a two-vehicle crash on County Trunk Highway I, north of Cedar Creek Road. Initial reports indicated that a pickup truck had struck a school bus head-on.
Investigators said a Dodge Ram pickup truck was traveling southbound on CTH I when it began drifting over the centerline. The vehicle crossed into the northbound lane and collided head-on with the school bus. Both vehicles came to rest in the northbound lane.
Authorities confirmed the Riteway school bus was occupied only by the driver at the time of the crash, and no students were on board. The bus driver, a 71-year-old Saukville resident, sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The Dodge Ram was driven by a 57-year-old man from West Bend. Deputies said the driver was pinned inside the vehicle and required extrication. Despite immediate lifesaving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Both lanes of CTH I between Pleasant Valley Road and Cedar Creek Road were closed for several hours while a crash reconstruction was conducted. Drivers in the area were advised to seek alternate routes during the closure.
