Springfield, Missouri – A surge of early summer heat could grip much of Missouri between June 19 and 25, with nearly a 50% chance of above-normal temperatures across the Ozarks region.
According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, there is a 47% likelihood of warmer-than-average conditions during this 8-day period. Normal highs typically range from 84°F to 88°F this time of year, with lows in the mid-60s. This outlook suggests highs could approach or exceed the upper 80s, especially in cities like Springfield, Branson, and West Plains.
The temperature outlook map from the Climate Prediction Center shows a broad swath of elevated heat probabilities across the central U.S., including Missouri, Kansas, and southern Illinois. Areas such as Lebanon, Rolla, and Joplin could experience extended afternoon heat, with increased strain on cooling systems and higher energy demand.
Residents are advised to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Those without reliable air conditioning should locate nearby cooling centers, especially if daytime highs persist above normal.
This heat trend may extend into early July. Another updated outlook is expected later next week.
