SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Missouri is enduring one last surge of dangerous heat Tuesday as highs climb into the upper 90s, with afternoon and evening storms expected to develop across the Ozarks. Gusty winds and lightning may accompany stronger cells, creating travel delays late in the day.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, temperatures will fall closer to seasonal averages beginning Wednesday, with highs dropping into the upper 80s. Rain chances will fade after Tuesday night, leaving several days of dry and mostly sunny weather to follow.

Communities across southern Missouri, including Branson, Joplin, and Rolla, can expect quieter conditions by midweek. Roadways could see brief ponding Tuesday evening, but drier air will settle in by Thursday, offering some relief from recent humidity.

Residents are advised to limit outdoor activity during peak heat hours Tuesday and stay alert for lightning if storms develop. The break in high temperatures will continue into the weekend, with highs trending slightly below normal by Sunday.
