Springfield, MO – A quiet stretch of fall weather continues for now, but southwest Missouri residents should prepare for patchy morning frost and an approaching rain system later in the week. The National Weather Service in Springfield says low-lying areas could see light frost Wednesday and again Thursday morning, followed by a return to mild, sunny afternoons.
Daytime highs are expected to reach the upper 60s to mid-70s midweek, with winds remaining light after recent breezy conditions. Overnight lows will dip into the upper 30s to mid-40s, providing ideal conditions for frost formation in cooler valleys.
Rain chances will increase late Thursday night into Friday, with the best potential for showers and isolated storms on Friday and Saturday. Highs will drop into the upper 50s to low 60s, and lows will hover in the 40s through the weekend.
Forecasters recommend residents protect sensitive plants from early morning frost and keep an eye on changing conditions as the next round of rain approaches.
