Springfield, MO – A sharp temperature drop is expected across southwest Missouri this weekend as colder air sweeps in behind a passing front, according to the National Weather Service in Springfield.

Highs today will reach between 48° and 59°, but by Sunday, daytime readings may only hit the low 30s, with overnight lows plunging to the single digits and teens. Wind chills could fall as low as -10° to -5° Sunday morning, especially in open and higher-elevation areas of the Ozarks.

Forecasters note that the chill won’t last long. The December 18–24 outlook shows a strong chance for temperatures 10–15 degrees above normal across much of Missouri, suggesting a return to milder conditions heading into the Christmas week.

Residents are urged to dress in layers, protect pets and pipes, and limit time outdoors during the early morning hours Sunday.
