SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – After several unseasonably warm and sunny days, a strong fall front is expected to bring showers and thunderstorms late Friday into Saturday across southern Missouri and southeastern Kansas, followed by a return to cooler, seasonal temperatures.
According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, highs this week will run 10 to 15 degrees above average, peaking between 80°F and 85°F through Friday. Mostly sunny skies will dominate midweek before a cold front moves in Friday evening, bringing a 40–70% chance of rain and thunderstorms, some of which could be strong on Saturday.
Meteorologists note uncertainty remains about storm timing and intensity, but Saturday afternoon appears most likely for thunderstorms in the Ozarks region. Any stronger storms could bring brief heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and lightning.
The NWS advises residents and travelers to stay updated on changing conditions, especially if planning outdoor activities this weekend. Behind the front, highs will fall back into the low to mid-70s, offering a refreshing, cooler end to the week.
