SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – A stretch of unseasonably warm weather is returning to southwest Missouri through the weekend, bringing highs 5 to 10 degrees above average for mid-October and only minimal rain chances. Afternoon temperatures will rise into the upper 70s and low 80s across much of the Ozarks by Friday, extending into early next week.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, the region will stay under mostly sunny skies with just a 10–20% chance of light showers on Friday. Normal highs for this time of year sit in the upper 60s, but readings are expected to remain near or above 80 degrees in Springfield, Branson, and Joplin through Monday. Overnight lows will hold in the 50s, keeping mornings mild and fog risk low.

The Missouri Department of Transportation advises continued caution for early commuters as patchy ground fog and dew may still form in rural valleys. Outdoor events and fall festivals across Greene, Christian, and Taney counties should enjoy favorable conditions, with little threat of rain. Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated and monitor pets and plants still exposed to late-season heat.

This warm pattern is expected to hold until a more pronounced cool front arrives around midweek, which could bring the next opportunity for widespread rainfall.
