SPRINGFIELD, Missouri – A sharp cold front will sweep across the Ozarks late Saturday, ending a warm stretch and ushering in a blast of early winter air that will make Sunday and Monday feel downright frigid.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, gusty west winds up to 30 mph will accompany the front Saturday evening, dropping temperatures from the 70s to the 30s overnight. Sunday’s highs will struggle to reach the upper 30s to near 40, with northwest winds producing wind chills in the 20s through the day.

“By Monday morning, wind chills could fall into the teens as the coldest air of the season settles in,” forecasters said. Despite the chill, skies will remain mostly sunny through Monday before a gradual warm-up returns Tuesday.

The quick temperature swing could also heighten fire weather concerns ahead of the front Friday and early Saturday, when humidity levels remain low and winds increase. Residents should secure outdoor items before the front passes and dress in layers if venturing out Sunday morning.
