Springfield, Missouri – Scattered thunderstorms are sweeping across the Ozarks Monday afternoon, bringing isolated downpours and sporadic lightning primarily east of Highway 65 and south of Interstate 44.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, numerous showers with embedded thunderstorms are ongoing and expected to continue moving slowly from west to east through the evening hours. Rainfall totals will range from 0.10 to 0.25 inches, with some localized spots picking up as much as 0.75 inches. While no flooding or severe storms are expected, lightning could pose a hazard, especially for those outdoors.

Communities including West Plains, Willow Springs, and areas near Mountain Grove remain in the highest impact zone. Motorists on Highway 63 and local backroads may encounter brief visibility issues during heavier showers. Residents are urged to head indoors at the first sign of thunder and to stay weather-aware, especially in rural areas with limited shelter options.

This round of storms is not expected to linger into Tuesday, with clearing conditions likely overnight. Still, residents should monitor for additional updates this evening as the system dissipates.
