SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Missouri is preparing for heavy rainfall across the Ozarks this weekend, with a significant risk of localized flooding in low-lying areas. Residents should be on high alert, especially along major roadways such as Interstate 49, as the National Weather Service (NWS) warns of intense rainfall through Monday night.

According to the NWS in Springfield, rain chances are expected to surge on Sunday, with precipitation probabilities reaching 70–100% in the morning and continuing overnight. By Monday, the risk intensifies with rain chances peaking at 90–100% throughout the day. Flood-prone regions, particularly near waterways, may see water levels rise rapidly, so residents are advised to avoid traveling through flooded areas.

The shift in weather comes as part of a broader pattern change bringing severe rain to the Ozarks, a notable departure from the ongoing drought conditions. Rainfall is anticipated to range between one to two inches, with the heaviest downpours expected Sunday night into Monday morning. Storms may also produce occasional thunderstorms, accompanied by gusty winds of up to 30 mph.

Looking ahead to the week, rain will begin tapering off by Tuesday, with only a slight chance of residual showers in the early hours. By Tuesday evening, skies are expected to clear, giving way to mostly dry and sunny conditions for the remainder of the week.
