Austin, TX – The National Weather Service in Austin–San Antonio is warning residents across South-Central Texas to prepare for two rounds of thunderstorms between Friday night and Saturday evening, October 24–25, 2025.

The first wave of storms is expected to develop this evening over the Edwards Plateau, reaching the I-35 corridor—including Austin, San Antonio, and New Braunfelsafter midnight, according to the latest NWS update. Storm timing varies by location: between 7–11 p.m. near Del Rio and Rocksprings, and 1–5 a.m. for areas farther east such as Gonzales and Cuero.

Forecasters have placed much of the region under a Level 2 out of 5 severe weather risk, citing the potential for damaging winds, large hail, and brief tornadoes. Heavy rainfall could also lead to localized flooding, particularly across the Hill Country and southern Edwards Plateau, where rain chances range from 60% to 90% overnight.

A second round of scattered thunderstorms is possible Saturday afternoon and evening, with the greatest risk centered on the Austin metro and Coastal Plains. Rain chances remain elevated at 40% to 80%, and another Level 2 severe risk has been issued for those areas.

Residents are urged to review safety plans, keep phones charged, and monitor weather alerts overnight. Those with outdoor plans on Saturday should stay weather aware and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions.
