Portland, OR – The National Weather Service in Portland has released rainfall totals from a 72-hour period spanning Sunday, December 7th through Wednesday, December 10th at 8 a.m., showing widespread heavy rain across much of northwest Oregon and southwest Washington.

According to the NWS map, many coastal and mountainous areas recorded 6 to 10 inches of rainfall, with localized amounts exceeding 12 inches in portions of the north Oregon Coast Range and the Cascade foothills. Some of the highest totals included 12.70 inches near the central Coast Range, 9.65 inches near Longview, and 8.36 inches along the northern Oregon coast.

Even the inland valleys saw substantial rainfall, with 3 to 5 inches reported in areas such as Salem, Albany, and Eugene. Southwestern Oregon and the southern Willamette Valley saw lighter amounts ranging from 0.5 to 2 inches.

Forecasters note that these totals are preliminary and may change slightly as more data is reviewed. The recent deluge follows a series of Pacific storm systems that brought persistent rain and high snow levels to the region.

While major flooding has not been reported in most urban areas, saturated soils and ongoing runoff are expected to keep rivers and creeks elevated through midweek. Residents are encouraged to monitor weather.gov/pqr for the latest updates and to remain alert for any new flood advisories.

This storm marks one of the wettest 72-hour periods of the winter season so far, highlighting the ongoing strength of Pacific systems impacting the Northwest.
