Oswego, NY – A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for Wayne, Northern Cayuga, and Oswego Counties from Monday evening through Tuesday evening, as heavy lake-effect snow develops off Lake Ontario, according to the National Weather Service in Buffalo.
Forecasters warn that the most persistent snow bands could bring 7 inches or more, with wind gusts up to 35 mph creating blowing and drifting snow. The heaviest snowfall is expected Monday night into early Tuesday, when visibility could drop sharply within the lake-effect bands.
Officials say travel may become difficult, especially during the Monday evening and Tuesday morning commutes, as roads, bridges, and overpasses become slick and snow-covered. Drivers are urged to use caution, allow extra travel time, and monitor for rapid changes in conditions.
The National Weather Service notes that lake-effect snow bands can shift quickly, producing intense snow and near whiteouts in one area while leaving nearby communities nearly dry.
Residents are encouraged to prepare vehicles and properties now, as snowfall rates and wind chills may fluctuate rapidly once the storm arrives.
