Oswego, NY – A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for Oswego, Jefferson, and Lewis counties, with the potential for heavy lake effect snow beginning Saturday afternoon and lasting through Sunday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Buffalo.
Before that system arrives, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 4 a.m. Friday through 1 a.m. Saturday, with 4 to 8 inches expected in the most persistent snow bands. The weekend system could bring an additional 7 inches or more, especially along and near the Tug Hill Plateau, where lake-enhanced snowfall will be most intense.
According to the NWS, “Travel could be very difficult” with poor visibility and snow-covered roads, particularly during the Friday morning and evening commutes and again Saturday night into Sunday morning.
Drivers are urged to use caution and prepare for rapid changes in visibility and road conditions, as lake effect bands can shift suddenly, leaving one area buried in snow while nearby towns remain nearly clear.
Forecasters advise residents to check the latest updates before traveling this weekend and keep emergency kits in vehicles, including blankets, flashlights, and extra clothing.
Stay tuned to local media and the National Weather Service Buffalo office for updated forecasts as the storm track becomes clearer.
