Oswego Township, Illinois – Authorities are investigating a shooting that injured a teen and led to the discovery of a deceased man Sunday in unincorporated Oswego Township.

According to the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were notified around 12:25 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, by the Chicago Police Department that a 14-year-old girl had suffered a gunshot wound to the leg. Investigators determined the juvenile had been struck by a bullet earlier that morning at a residence in the 0–99 block of Palomino Lane.

The teen was treated at a Chicago-area hospital and later released. Officials believe the shooting occurred between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m., according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies obtained a search warrant for the Palomino Lane residence with assistance from the Kendall County State’s Attorney’s Office. While executing the warrant, law enforcement located a deceased adult male inside the home. The Kendall County Coroner’s Office responded and pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Preliminary findings indicate the male sustained multiple gunshot wounds, though the official cause and manner of death remain pending further investigation and a forensic autopsy.

Authorities identified a potential person of interest who has been detained. However, no charges have been filed as of Monday.

Officials said the incident does not appear to be random and is believed to be targeted.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office or Crime Stoppers.

Students and local families in the Oswego area may notice increased law enforcement activity as the investigation continues.
