Oswego, Ill. — Oswego High School Athletics notified Facebook followers on June 16 that senior Aubriella Garza was nominated for High School on Sports Illustrated High School Athlete of the Week.
Each week of the high school season, High School on SI gathers the best performances in the country. Fans, Sports Illustrated readers and high school staff can nominate someone for the recognition of Athlete of the Week. Garza was one nominee of eleven chosen for the week of June 9 through 15. Voting closes Monday, June 23 at 11:59 p.m.
Garza is a senior softball player at Oswego High School. She has committed to Northern Illinois University to continue the sport at the collegiate level. In Oswego’s 4-1 win against Barrington, Garza went three for four with a double and a home run. The game secured her team’s Class 4A state title. Garza’s total of 14 home runs are now an Oswego single-season record. She also earned All State 2nd Team honors.
Voting takes place on the High School on SI website below the write-ups for each athlete.
