Oswego, NY – Communities along Lake Ontario are bracing for days of dangerous winter weather as lake-effect snow intensifies across northern New York.

According to the National Weather Service Buffalo, a Winter Storm Warning is in effect from Sunday morning through Wednesday afternoon following a Winter Weather Advisory that continues until early Sunday. Snow accumulations of 2 to 4 feet are expected across parts of Oswego County, especially near Lake Ontario and the Tug Hill region.

Heavy snow and blowing snow are expected to impact Route 104, Route 481, and local roads, with rapidly changing conditions as snowbands oscillate. Forecasters warn that snowfall rates could reach 4 inches per hour, leading to sudden whiteouts and impassable roads.

The most intense snowfall is expected Monday night through Tuesday night, when wind chills may fall below zero and visibility could drop to near zero at times. Officials caution that even short trips could become dangerous if drivers become stranded.

Gusty winds may also cause isolated power outages as heavy snow accumulates on tree branches and power lines.

Residents are encouraged to complete preparations early, avoid travel during peak snowfall, and submit snow reports to help forecasters track conditions.
