Oswego, IL – A 48-year-old Aurora man was arrested Thursday afternoon after allegedly stealing a cash register from a Jewel Food Store in Oswego and fleeing from police, authorities said.

According to the Oswego Police Department, officers were dispatched around 2:18 p.m. on October 23 to the Jewel store in the 2500 block of Route 30 for a report of a burglary in progress. Witnesses reported that a man removed a cash register, broke it open in the parking lot, and fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Responding officers located a suspect matching the description in a marshy area northeast of Route 30 and Douglas Road in Montgomery. Police say the man refused repeated commands to surrender as officers established a perimeter and requested assistance from the Kane County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit.

After officers warned the suspect that a police dog would be deployed, the man allegedly continued to resist and attempted to flee. The K-9 was deployed, and officers apprehended the suspect without further incident.

Antonio L. Alexander, 48, of the 2300 block of Georgetown Circle in Aurora, was identified by store employees and taken into custody. The Kendall County State’s Attorney’s Office approved a felony burglary charge, along with misdemeanor theft, resisting a peace officer, and obstructing a peace officer.

Alexander was processed at the Oswego Police Department and transported to the Kendall County Jail pending a hearing.

Police thanked the Kane County Sheriff’s Office and Montgomery Police Department for their assistance in the arrest.
