Oswego, IL – 19-Year-Old Critically Injured in Motorcycle Crash Thursday Afternoon

Oswego, IL – A 19-year-old Yorkville man was seriously injured Thursday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle and SUV at a busy Oswego intersection.

According to the Oswego Police Department, the collision occurred around 12:42 p.m. at the intersection of Route 34 and Orchard Road. The motorcyclist, who was riding a Harley Davidson, collided with a Honda CRV that was turning left onto Orchard Road.

Authorities said the Honda CRV, driven by 73-year-old Kurob Mikkelson of Plano, was attempting to turn northbound when the motorcycle struck its front right passenger side. The young motorcyclist suffered a major head injury and other unspecified injuries. He was initially taken to Rush Copley Medical Center before being airlifted to Loyola Hospital. His condition remains unknown as of Thursday evening.

Mikkelson was transported with non-life-threatening injuries and issued a citation for Failure to Yield While Turning Left.

Police said no other individuals were involved in the crash. The Oswego Police Department called in the Illinois State Police Reconstruction Unit to conduct a full crash investigation. As a result, the intersection was closed for approximately three hours. This incident remains under investigation.
