Orlando, Florida – Evening plans across east-central Florida could be disrupted Sunday as strong thunderstorms build near and west of Interstate 4, bringing a risk of gusty winds, lightning, and heavy rain through 9 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, storms are developing on the sea breeze and pushing southeastward, with the greatest activity expected between 5 and 9 p.m. Warnings are in place for areas from Sanford and Orlando down to Melbourne and Vero Beach.
Residents along I-4 and I-95 should expect wind gusts up to 55 mph, frequent lightning strikes, and localized flooding from downpours reaching 3–4 inches. Small hail is also possible in stronger cells. Areas like Kissimmee, Titusville, and Daytona Beach could also see brief, intense rainfall impacting visibility and road safety.
Travelers should avoid driving through flooded roadways and secure outdoor objects that could blow away in sudden wind bursts. Power outages are possible, so charge devices and stay indoors when thunder roars.
Storm activity is expected to taper late tonight, but additional advisories could follow if storms linger or redevelop inland.
