Orlando, FL – Residents and beachgoers across East Central Florida should prepare for scattered showers and storms this afternoon, along with a high risk of rip currents at area beaches, according to the National Weather Service in Melbourne.

Forecasters said a few coastal showers were possible this morning, followed by isolated to scattered thunderstorms developing through the afternoon, particularly near and south of Orlando. Rain chances range from 20% in Daytona Beach and Sanford to 40% in Stuart and Port St. Lucie. High temperatures will again reach the mid to upper 80s.

According to the forecast, Orlando is expected to top out at 89 degrees with a 20% chance of rain, while Melbourne will reach 86 degrees with a 20% chance. Coastal locations such as Vero Beach and Port St. Lucie face higher storm chances of 30–40%.

Officials also cautioned beach visitors of dangerous surf conditions, with a high risk of rip currents persisting along the east coast. Strong rip currents can sweep swimmers out to sea and are a leading hazard at Florida beaches. The National Weather Service urges swimmers to stay near lifeguards and avoid entering the water if unsure of conditions.

Showers and storms are expected to diminish into the evening, with overnight lows falling into the 70s.
