Orlando, Florida – Strong thunderstorms will develop across east central Florida this afternoon, bringing gusty winds, heavy rain, and dangerous beach conditions that could impact travel and outdoor plans within hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, a cold front moving through today will trigger scattered showers and storms, with coverage ranging from 40% in Orlando to 60% along the coast, including Daytona Beach and Melbourne. Some storms may become strong by mid-afternoon, producing wind gusts over 40 mph, small hail, and brief downpours that reduce visibility on I-4 and US-1.

Beachgoers face an added خطر as rip currents remain high-risk along Volusia and Brevard County beaches, with seas building between 3 to 6 feet and northeast winds increasing to 15 to 20 knots. Officials urge swimmers to stay out of the water or remain near lifeguards due to life-threatening surf conditions.

Storm chances continue into Wednesday with scattered activity, though conditions begin improving by Thursday as drier air moves in. By Friday, skies turn sunny with highs climbing into the upper 80s across Orlando and the Space Coast.

Residents should monitor radar this afternoon, avoid beaches due to rip currents, and prepare for rapidly changing weather conditions. Additional alerts may be issued as storms develop later today.
