Melbourne, Fla. – Central Florida will see another stormy afternoon Monday as heat and moisture fuel scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms. Dangerous lightning, gusts near 45 mph, and locally heavy rain are expected into the evening, raising hazards for drivers and beachgoers.
According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, rain chances rise steadily across the region Monday, with the greatest threat for storms stretching from Kissimmee south to Okeechobee and Vero Beach. Orlando holds a 40% chance of storms, while Vero Beach and Port St. Lucie face a 60% chance. Daytona Beach remains lower at 20%, but rip current risks are high along all Atlantic beaches.
Authorities warn beach visitors to stay out of the surf as dangerous currents will persist through at least midweek. Waves of 2 to 4 feet are combining with strong rip currents to create life-threatening conditions. Inland, afternoon heat indices may approach 100 to 105 degrees, adding to the risks of outdoor activity.
Residents are urged to limit time outside during peak heat and lightning, avoid non-essential travel during heavy downpours, and remain indoors when thunder is heard. Storm threats are expected to continue into Tuesday and Wednesday.
