Orlando, Florida – Another surge of cold air is expected to push into east central Florida late Sunday night, bringing a renewed risk of freezing temperatures across the Orlando metro and surrounding counties by early Monday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, a Freeze Watch is in effect from late Sunday night through Monday morning for Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Lake, and Volusia counties. Overnight lows could drop to around 30 degrees, cold enough to cause frost and freeze damage in inland and low-lying areas.
The watch includes cities such as Orlando, Winter Park, Sanford, Altamonte Springs, Kissimmee, Clermont, Leesburg, Deland, Deltona, Daytona Beach, and New Smyrna Beach. While coastal Volusia may stay slightly warmer, inland communities across the I-4 corridor are more vulnerable to sub-freezing temperatures near daybreak Monday.
Sensitive vegetation, including citrus and ornamental plants, could be damaged if left unprotected. Exposed outdoor plumbing may also be at risk if temperatures remain below freezing for several hours. Residents are advised to cover plants, bring pets indoors, and wrap or allow outdoor pipes to drip slowly to prevent freezing.
The National Weather Service notes that Freeze Watches may be upgraded to Freeze Warnings as confidence increases. Cold conditions are expected to ease later Monday morning, but additional advisories could be issued before the weekend ends.
