Orlando, FL – Central Florida residents face a blistering combination of extreme heat and scattered thunderstorms today, with a dangerous heat index peaking near 110° until 7 p.m. Friday. Roads, schools, and outdoor workers across Orlando, Lake, Orange, and Seminole counties should brace for high humidity and temperatures that feel well above 100°, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses.

According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, a Heat Advisory remains in effect from noon to 7 p.m. Friday for Orlando, Sanford, Clermont, Kissimmee, and nearby cities. Afternoon highs are forecast to reach the mid-90s, but humidity will make it feel closer to 105° or higher. Scattered thunderstorms may develop after 11 a.m., bringing brief downpours and gusty winds but little relief from the heat.

Travelers along I-4, SR-50, and major surface streets should prepare for sudden storms, reduced visibility, and slick roads during the late afternoon commute. Emergency managers urge everyone to avoid strenuous outdoor activity, drink plenty of water, and check on vulnerable neighbors or relatives. If you must be outside, wear lightweight clothing, take frequent breaks in the shade, and recognize signs of heat exhaustion—such as dizziness, headache, or nausea.

The National Weather Service warns that excessive heat and humidity could linger through the weekend, with more advisories possible if the pattern continues. Stay tuned for further updates as conditions evolve.
