Orlando, Florida – Fires could spread rapidly across Central Florida by late afternoon as gusty northwest winds and dry air push wildfire danger to critical levels through midnight Sunday, with another round of elevated risk set for Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, a Red Flag Warning remains in effect from 3 p.m. Sunday until midnight for Volusia, Lake, Orange, Seminole and Osceola counties. A second Red Flag Warning will take effect from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday. Winds will increase to around 15 mph with gusts up to 30 mph Sunday afternoon and evening. Humidity levels will fall between 30 and 35 percent Sunday, then drop further to 20 to 25 percent Monday.

Communities including Daytona Beach, Orlando, Sanford, Kissimmee and Clermont face heightened wildfire risk. Dry brush near Interstate 4, Florida’s Turnpike and State Road 417 can ignite quickly from sparks caused by vehicles, lawn equipment or discarded cigarettes.

Officials urge residents to avoid outdoor burning, delay yard debris fires and secure trailer chains to prevent roadside sparks. Fire crews remain on alert through Monday evening, and additional advisories could be issued if dry, breezy conditions persist.
