Orlando, Florida – Dense fog and dangerous marine conditions are affecting much of east central Florida Monday morning, prompting advisories and safety warnings across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, dense fog has been observed across portions of east central Florida, with a Dense Fog Advisory remaining in effect until 10 a.m. Visibility has dropped below one-quarter mile in some areas, creating hazardous conditions for motorists during the morning commute.

Temperatures across the region remain unseasonably warm for late December. Orlando is expected to reach 78°F, while coastal and southern communities, including Melbourne, Vero Beach, Port St. Lucie, and Stuart, are forecast to see highs near 80 to 81°F. Daytona Beach is expected to top out near 76°F. Rain chances remain low, generally near zero.

In addition to fog, a high risk of rip currents continues along all Atlantic beaches in east central Florida. The National Weather Service warns that strong, life-threatening rip currents are possible, even for experienced swimmers. Beachgoers are urged to stay out of the water and follow local beach safety guidance.

West winds are expected to increase to 10 to 15 mph later in the day. While conditions will stay warm through the afternoon, forecasters note this will be the final warm day before cooler air arrives tonight behind a cold front.

Drivers are advised to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and allow extra distance between vehicles while fog persists. Commuters, students, and early-morning workers are expected to feel the greatest impacts during peak travel hours.

Residents should continue monitoring official updates from the National Weather Service as conditions improve later this morning.
