Orlando, Fla. – Central Florida drivers could see slick roads and reduced visibility as daily thunderstorms move through the Orlando area each afternoon and evening this week. High humidity combined with soaring heat will also push the heat index past 100 degrees at times.
According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, scattered storms are most likely after 5 p.m. today and again each afternoon through Wednesday. Heavy downpours and frequent lightning are expected, with rainfall totals between a tenth and a quarter of an inch, though localized amounts may be higher.
Orlando is forecast to reach highs in the low-to-mid 90s through midweek, with the heat index climbing as high as 104. Overnight lows will hover in the mid-70s, offering little relief from the daytime heat. Afternoon storms will also affect nearby communities, including Kissimmee, Sanford, and Winter Park, potentially slowing travel on I-4 and surrounding highways.
Residents are urged to plan around late-day storms, avoid flooded intersections, and secure outdoor items ahead of gusty winds. Lightning remains the biggest threat, especially for outdoor workers and those attending evening events.
Storm chances remain in place through Wednesday night, with slightly drier conditions possible heading into Thursday.
