Orlando, Florida – A sharp cold front moving through Central Florida on Monday will bring a rapid temperature drop, creating a risk of freezing conditions in the Orlando area by early Tuesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, a warm winter weekend will continue through Sunday, with afternoon highs climbing into the upper 70s and low to mid-80s across much of East Central Florida. Record highs are possible Sunday afternoon before colder air begins pushing south late Monday.

Once the cold front passes, temperatures are expected to fall quickly Monday night. NWS data shows an 85 to 95 percent chance that Orlando temperatures will drop to 40 degrees or lower by early Tuesday morning. The probability of reaching freezing conditions near 32 degrees remains low, around 5 percent, but colder readings are more likely in inland and northern locations.

Nearby cities face a higher freeze risk. Leesburg has a 30 percent chance of freezing Tuesday morning, increasing to 50 percent by Wednesday morning. Daytona Beach faces a 25 to 35 percent freeze probability during the same period, while Okeechobee has a 10 to 20 percent chance.

Forecasters say the coldest temperatures are expected early Tuesday and Wednesday mornings as below-normal temperatures settle across the region. Residents are urged to prepare for the temperature swing by protecting sensitive plants, bringing pets indoors, and using space heaters with caution.

While no wintry precipitation is expected in Central Florida, the sudden change from near-record warmth to cold conditions may catch residents off guard, especially during early-morning commutes.

Young workers, students, and outdoor employees may notice the biggest impact during overnight and pre-dawn hours when temperatures are lowest.

The National Weather Service advises residents to stay informed as colder air settles in early next week.
