Orland Park, IL – Fire crews in Orland Park responded to two unrelated fires Friday night, one at an apartment building and another at a single-family home, leaving three residents with minor injuries and one firefighter hospitalized for heat exhaustion.
According to the Orland Fire Protection District, the first incident was reported at 8:12 p.m. in the 7400 block of Sycamore Court. Two residents and a firefighter were treated at the scene, with the firefighter transported to Silver Cross Hospital. The firefighter has since been released and is returning to work.
Hours later, at 11:37 p.m., crews were called to the 15300 block of St. James Drive for a home fire. One resident suffered minor injuries but declined hospital transport. No firefighters were hurt during that response.
Interim Chief John Purtill said fast action from fire crews prevented serious injuries. “We are grateful that no residents were seriously injured at either fire location thanks to the fast response from our fire crews,” Purtill said.
At the Sycamore Court fire, flames were seen venting from the attic. Crews used two handlines to attack the blaze from both the back and front of the building, extinguishing it in about 20 minutes. At the St. James Drive home, firefighters encountered heavy flames in a second-floor bedroom and brought the fire under control in roughly 15 minutes.
Both fires remain under investigation, and officials have not determined the causes. Orland Fire received assistance from departments in Palos, North Palos, Tinley Park, Frankfort, North Palos, Mokena, and Oak Forest.
