Orland Park, IL – A planned controlled burn at the Ravinia Creek Wetland in Orland Park has been rescheduled to the week of April 7 due to recent strong winds.
According to a statement from the Village of Orland Park, the Davey Resource Group will conduct the burn at the Municipal Basin between Ravinia Avenue and West Avenue, weather permitting. Officials emphasized that the new date remains tentative and is subject to change based on conditions.
The prescribed fire will be carried out in compliance with Illinois EPA, Cook County, and municipal open burning regulations. It will be closely monitored by the Orland Fire Protection District to ensure public safety and fire containment at all times.
Controlled burns are a common land management practice aimed at reducing invasive species, promoting native plant growth, and improving ecological health. Residents in the surrounding area may notice smoke or fire crews in the vicinity during the burn period.
The village will release updated details once the burn date is confirmed. Residents are advised to avoid the area during active burning and to follow any safety guidance issued by local officials.
