Orland Hills, IL – A routine maintenance operation sparked a brush fire behind the Orland Hills Recreation Center on Wednesday. The fire started around 2:30 p.m. when a village maintenance worker inadvertently ignited dry vegetation outside the wetlands near Lake Lorin.
Upon discovering the fire, the worker immediately contacted the Orland Fire Department. Fire crews arrived quickly and were supported by neighboring departments. They managed to contain the fire to the wetlands, preventing it from spreading to nearby properties or causing harm to residents.
According to a statement from the Village of Orland Hills, the rapid response was instrumental in ensuring that no life or property was damaged by the blaze. The cause of the fire was linked to maintenance equipment used near the wetlands.
