Orion Township, MI – A head-on crash on Lapeer Road has claimed a second victim, officials confirmed Monday.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred around 1:11 p.m. Saturday near Lapeer Road and Greenshield Road in Orion Township. Authorities said an 86-year-old Rochester Hills man was initially killed in the collision.

His wife, identified as Florence Anna Young, 86, later died from injuries sustained in the crash. Her husband, Alfred Henry Young, had been pronounced dead at the scene the day prior.

Investigators said a 2015 Ford Fiesta driven by a 63-year-old Hazel Park man was traveling northbound when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle allegedly left the roadway, crossed the median, and entered the southbound lanes. The vehicle then struck a 2011 Lincoln MKX head-on.

The driver of the Fiesta and his 60-year-old wife remain hospitalized in critical condition, officials said.

Authorities noted that alcohol, drugs, and speed do not appear to be factors in the crash at this time. The Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office has taken custody of the deceased, and autopsies were scheduled.

The Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate the incident.

The crash may impact commuters traveling along Lapeer Road as the investigation and safety concerns continue.
