Pendleton, OR – A strong winter storm is forecast to bring up to 6 inches of snow and freezing rain to Oregon’s Northern Blue Mountains this weekend, impacting travel until Sunday afternoon. Drivers along Interstate 84 and mountain passes should prepare for difficult road conditions.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory effective from 4 p.m. Saturday until 4 p.m. Sunday. According to forecasters, areas near Meacham, Tollgate, and the Ski Bluewood Resort will see the heaviest snowfall. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph, further complicating visibility and road safety.

Freezing rain is expected to develop late Saturday morning before transitioning into snow by evening. Travel disruptions are likely, with slippery roads and blowing snow creating hazardous conditions. Officials recommend checking Oregon road conditions at tripcheck.com or dialing 511 for updates.

Sunday will bring continued snowfall in the morning, tapering off by late afternoon. Highs will reach 44°F in nearby Pendleton, with temperatures dropping to the 20s overnight. Sunshine is expected to return Monday, offering relief to travelers and residents.

Drivers are urged to carry emergency supplies, including blankets and food, when venturing into affected areas. Slow down, allow extra time for travel, and use chains when necessary.
