Medford, Oregon – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect across parts of southwest Oregon early Thursday, with snow creating hazardous travel conditions in higher elevations through mid-morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Medford, snowfall up to 3 inches is expected above 1,400 to 1,500 feet in portions of Central Douglas County, Jackson County, Eastern Curry County, Josephine County, and parts of the Klamath Basin. Lower accumulations of up to 1 to 2 inches are expected in north-central Klamath County.
The advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. PST Thursday. Snow is impacting several key travel corridors, including Interstate 5, with slippery conditions possible at Canyon Creek Pass, Sexton Pass, Smith Hill, Stage Pass, Jacksonville Hill, and Bear Camp Road. These locations sit between 2,000 and nearly 5,000 feet in elevation.
The primary impacts include slick roads, reduced traction, and commute delays, especially during the Thursday morning commute. Even light snowfall may quickly create icy surfaces on bridges, overpasses, sidewalks, and driveways.
Motorists are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and use caution when traveling through higher terrain. Pedestrians should watch for icy surfaces when walking outdoors.
