Pendleton, OR – A winter storm warning is in effect for Wallowa County through 10 a.m. Wednesday, with heavy snowfall expected to create hazardous travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Pendleton, snowfall will occur in two waves—one Monday night and another from late Tuesday morning through Wednesday morning. Total accumulations are expected to reach between 5 and 10 inches.
Residents in Enterprise, Wallowa, and Joseph should prepare for periods of moderate to heavy snowfall, which could reduce visibility and make roads treacherous. Officials advise delaying travel if possible and carrying emergency supplies, such as tire chains, blankets, extra clothing, and food, in case of road closures or becoming stranded.
Power outages and downed trees are also possible due to the weight of the snow. Authorities urge people to report any fallen power lines to their electric company and avoid touching them.
Those who must travel should use extreme caution and allow extra time for their commute. Road conditions are expected to remain hazardous until the storm passes Wednesday morning.
