Portland, OR – Life-threatening heat is set to grip much of northwestern Oregon starting Sunday afternoon, with daytime highs expected to soar between 95 and 105 degrees through Monday night. Overnight temperatures will offer little relief, holding in the 60s to low 70s.

According to the National Weather Service in Portland, the Extreme Heat Watch covers the Greater Portland/Vancouver metro, Willamette Valley, Hood River Valley, and Columbia River Gorge. The heat will peak Monday, with Eugene forecast to hit 100°F, while Portland will climb into triple digits. The combination of high daytime temperatures and warm nights will increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, especially for those without air conditioning.

Officials urge residents to avoid strenuous outdoor activities during peak afternoon heat, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Cooling centers are expected to open across affected counties. Pets should have access to shade and water at all times.

The heat wave is expected to break late Monday night, with a gradual cooling trend beginning Tuesday. More alerts may be issued if conditions intensify.
