EUGENE, Ore. – The stillness of this foggy morning won’t last much longer. Oregon’s calm stretch of dry fall weather is about to end as a new series of Pacific systems rolls into the Willamette Valley midweek, bringing widespread rain, gusty breezes, and the first solid sign that November’s storm track has locked in.

According to the National Weather Service in Portland, light rain could begin as early as Wednesday afternoon, intensifying by evening. The heaviest rain is expected late Wednesday night through Thursday, when a deep low-pressure system moves ashore. Total rainfall could reach one inch or more across the southern valley, with locally higher amounts possible in the Coast Range.

Travelers should plan for slower commutes on I-5 from Eugene to Salem Wednesday night and Thursday, as standing water and reduced visibility develop in heavier showers. Winds may gust near 25 mph during the storm’s peak, especially in open areas south of Albany and along the Coast Range foothills.

Rain will taper briefly late Thursday before another system brings additional showers Friday. Highs will stay in the upper 50s through the week, while mild lows hover near 50°F — far from freezing but signaling that colder, wetter days aren’t far behind.

The pattern looks to stay active through the weekend, with more showers possible by Sunday. For now, Oregon’s mid-November rhythm is shifting unmistakably toward winter — gray skies, wet pavement, and that steady, familiar hum of rain against rooftops.
