EUGENE, Ore. – A Frost Advisory is in effect for the southern Willamette Valley and surrounding foothills through 9 a.m. Tuesday as clear skies and calm winds drive temperatures into the mid-30s. The coldest pockets near Junction City, Creswell, and Springfield could briefly dip near freezing before sunrise.

According to the National Weather Service in Portland, frost formation is likely across low-lying areas of Lane and Linn counties, with similar conditions across the Lower Columbia and North Coast Range valleys. Temperatures between 33°F and 36°F will be enough to damage unprotected tender plants and sensitive crops.

Residents are urged to cover outdoor vegetation or move potted plants inside overnight. Gardeners and vineyard operators should monitor early morning temperatures closely, as patchy frost may persist through Wednesday morning before a gradual warming trend begins.

After the cold start, the region will see sunny skies Tuesday afternoon with highs climbing into the low 60s. Light winds and dry air will keep nights chilly but pleasant days ahead through midweek. By Thursday and Friday, highs will reach the mid-60s with continued sunshine before clouds begin to increase heading into the weekend.

According to forecasters, rain could return to the southern Willamette Valley by late Saturday or Sunday, marking the next shift toward more unsettled fall weather.
