MEDFORD, Ore. – A chilly and unsettled stretch continues across southern Oregon this weekend, with off-and-on showers and early-season mountain snow. Temperatures remain below normal through Monday before a gradual warmup returns midweek. The National Weather Service in Medford reports several inches of snow possible over higher Cascade elevations such as Crater Lake, while lower passes could see a light coating by early Monday.
According to the NWS Medford office, a series of weak systems will keep scattered showers in place through Sunday night, especially along the coast and across the Cascades. Another low-pressure system arrives Monday, bringing gusty winds and renewed rain across the Rogue Valley, Shasta Valley, and eastern slopes. Snow levels may dip near 5,000 feet Monday morning before slowly rising as warmer air moves in.
Travelers should prepare for slick roads and brief slushy conditions across mountain routes including Highways 62, 138, and U.S. 97. Caltrans and ODOT crews advise caution on Cascade passes early Monday and note that Crater Lake National Park could experience several inches of accumulation.
Conditions are expected to dry out by Tuesday afternoon, with temperatures trending near or slightly above seasonal levels by midweek. Outdoor workers and travelers should take advantage of the calmer stretch late week before the next potential system approaches next weekend.
